“This is not okay,” Julien gasped, back arching.

“I don’t see why not.”

“We cannot-” Julien cut off as he smothered a moan. “Cannot stay in bed all day.”

Dave sat back and stilled, causing Julien to whimper. “Again. I don’t see why not. No one’s disturbed us. Well, if you don’t count that first mate of yours, but I dealt with him.”

Julien lay still, trying not to shift. He bit down on his lip when Dave ran a hand along his side, a tiny whimper still making it’s way from his throat.

“See, all’s well,” Dave said, smiling as he shifted forward.

“And I think you’ve had too much to drink. Although how you are only getting drunk after bottle eleven is a mystery to me.”

“Famous! And you’ve get ya speshul ship wit tha clogs.”

“Come on, into bed.”

“Vary loud clogs.”

“Do you hear something?” Dave called over from the Dutchman as he leaned back from his position at the rail.

Julien narrowed his eyes. “Something? We’re in the middle of the ocean.”

“Right. I thought I heard a mermaid or something…”

Julien’s face went stony. “Mermaids?”

“Captain?” Leo asked hesitantly, approaching from where he’d been sitting nearby.

“Do you hear singing, Leo?”

The first mate blanched. “Captain, I think you should go in your cabin for now.”

“But if there’re mer-“

“There aren’t any mermaids, and I’ll make sure to call you if there are.”

“Right.” Julien glanced around suspiciously as he walked to his cabin.

Leo turned to Dave.

“It’s best if you don’t mention mermaids around the captain, sir.”

“And that would be because?”

“Let’s just say that it gets awfully red whenever mermaids are involved.”
